We experience the world through our bodies and process that experience through the tools or stories we’ve been given. Stories about even our own bodies have been provided by our cultural upbringing, the media, the medical field and religion. It’s no secret that the lived experience of the female body has been affected by dominating repressive narratives. My Body Speaks is a developing project aiming to be part of the collective drive to shape new narratives using people’s own voices, both literally and creatively.

Incredible and important work addressing this reshaping of narratives is already happening in the fields of critical social sciences, gender studies, philosophy and medical humanities. My Body Speaks will broaden the conversation using people’s own expressions through oral and written stories, movement and art, on an individual level and at scale. It will also encourage and facilitate the use of artistic exploration and expression as a means of processing significant experiences and for communicating.
